Getting Ready for Shows

Show season has arrived, and Fall Fairs are not long away.

Our boys are in 4-H dairy, beef and rabbit clubs this year. Our youngest son Josh is on the left here at the dairy owners' farm. It is his first year showing. He is 13 and already 5'10". A trip to Marks for work/show boots set me back $160 today. Hopefully his feet are finished growing ;-) Kyle, on the right, is 15 and helps his brother out a lot with walking, washing and blowing, and clipping their 4-H dairy calf projects. Kyle is the experienced showman in the family, you can see more here, here and here.

This is Kyle's Holstein calf for this year. He is preparing for a show with the older members this week.

Josh will be showing a Brown Swiss born in January. We love 4-H and the people involved are awesome. And you don't have to live on a farm to take part.

I want to do 4-H! We all love fall fairs for all the livestock shows in our family. When we go along with all the grammas and grampas and aunts and uncles, we drive them crazy because we just have to visit every single rabbit, chicken, sheep, etc..... Your kids are so lucky to be a part of that!

That's so nice that the whole family can participate in this and not have to have a farm to do it! Wow! Your youngest is so tall. I say it's better to be tall than too short (as a guy) though. Must be all of that good milk he's drinking from the dairy farm! Ha!

You have some BIG boys, and they have some beautiful 4-H cattle. I miss that part of living in the country. I enjoyed the Fall Fairs so much, walking through the cattle barns and checking out my friends cattle was always fun.
Have a great week.
Hugs, Cindy

The cattle look dressed and ready to show. It's great that the lads are interested in farm life.
Been there done that.

My son and grand daughter both exhibited cows in 4H although they never lived on a farm. Let me know if you are going to be at the Norwood Fair at Thanksgiving and maybe we could meet! It is the biggest Fair in our area of Ontario

Our showing days are done. So sad, my son participated in his last FFA event yesterday which was accepting a scholarship at our state FFA convention. Great way to end his FFA career, but bittersweet. My kids shows pigs and meat goats for both 4H and FFA. Great family activities.

What a good activity for your sons. That last photo of a calf is just a beautiful shade of what looks like grey! (is that the Brown Swiss?)
